 "71 YEARS OF INDIAN REPUBLIC!
                  WHERE TO NOW?"

“Freedom in Mind, Faith in our heart, Memories in our Souls. Let's Salute our Nation on this 71st Republic Day”

The entire nation is laced up to celebrate the 71st Republic Day on January 26, 2020. We celebrate Republic Day on 26 January as it is also the day when India declared its Independence “Purna Swaraj” from the British in 1930.

On this occasion it is imperative that we remember the sacrifices of our great national heroes during the long independence struggle. Many leaders in spite of being well off, came on to the streets and fought for free India.  Some of the known leaders were Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, Sardar Patel, Dadabai Nauroji, Bhagat Singh, Alluri SeetaRama Raju, Pingali Venkaiah, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Mangal Pandey, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Dr BR Ambedkar, Maulana Azad, Dadabai Nauroji, Jaya Prakash Narain, Kamraj, Motilala Nehru, Pandit MM Malaviya, Tantiya Tope, Rabindra Nath Tagore,Dr Jakir Hussain, Sukhdev, Senapati Bapat, and Subash Chandra Bose.

Many of these fighters fought while sacrificing their career, life, joy and family. Many ordinary people suffered major injuries, had their property taken away & their women raped & killed. Most of the freedom fighters went to jails that had no proper facilities to live properly. A lot of them spent their own money to run press and write about the British atrocities and inform the whole world. That had put a lot of pressure on the British Throne.    Some of them followed peaceful means of fighting, while the others followed revolutionary methods. Many persons supported the freedom fighters, so that movements could proceed. Whatever they did was more than sufficient to throw the British, who had the largest power & army in the world, out of the country.

Try to imagine that you have to do this today.  It will not be possible to imagine your situation if you have to fight now like they had.  Very few of us will be ready to fight like them.  This one point will simply tell us all the enormous favour that the freedom fighters did for us.  Some leaders may appear to fight for people these days.  But it appears that they look for power after winning the public support and then earn money for themselves and their favoured people. On the other hand, freedom struggle was for the golden future of the country. It was not against the British people, it was against their rule and injustice.  But for a few, most of them fought selflessly for the noble cause. Many people will now say “why fight for the society, fight for yourself”. Look for your career. This will be the predominant feeling among people. So the “glory” and “nobility” in the sacrifices of our freedom fighters is unquestionable.
Without their unrelented efforts and glorious and noble sacrifices, we would still be slaves under the British. Their non-violent, non-cooperative, freedom fight won acclaim all over the world. Many countries could get their Independence afterwards following India.

It's 71 years now already. India was very poor and unorganized.  India faced tough hurdles to come to where it is now.  There were many internal struggles for unity in diversity, peace. There were many hits by selfish people from inside.  There were many invasions on the land on the borders, during which we lost a lot of land. There were a lot of regional, caste, language and religious barriers for progress. A lot of good things happened and bad things too along with them. Now people of India are more educated and knowledgeable and are probably on a progress path that the freedom fighters had hoped for.
We must pay our respectful tributes to them with full-hearted dedication and gratitude. While it may seem that patriotism is not a money-earning activity, still it's our inherent duty that we spend a few minutes to stand in silence and pray like we do (or did) for our forefathers.

In the seventy one years there has been progress on many accounts.  Now Indians are on the world map. However, there are other countries which have progressed far better than India in the last four decades.  India has not been able to gain sufficient friendship from its neighbours.  Indian economy is dependent badly on the world economy. Indian borders are not safe. India is still the country of poor, illiterate, dirty and disease prone in the eyes of the developed world. In the United Nations India has many supporters but India cannot get to any important position that has some power and responsibility. India has a lot of foreign debt, export-import gap and suffers from natural calamities every year. India lags behind many smaller countries in the fields of economy, business, tourism, sports etc. In the field of space, India has done good. India has shown tolerance, perhaps a little too much, to many disturbances from outside.

Thus in summary, India after independence has made some progress. Yet India still needs to accelerate its progress to be on par with other nations. India needs to show its power, like the way the United States does now and then, to show that it is a boss, in the fields it is.
